Based on Howard Gardner’s work on multiple intelligences and expanded on by Gary Harmes is the belief that every individual has a natural predisposition to a variety of innate intelligences and little-to-no aptitude for others.

Linguistic: words and language.

  • Learns best by writing, reading, telling stories.
  • Remembers names, places, dates and trivia.

Logical-Mathematical: logical thinking.

  • Learns best by categorizing, classifying and working with abstract patterns/relationships.
  • Drawn to arithmetic problems, games and experiments.

Bodily-kinesthetic: body movement.

  • Learns best by touching, moving, interacting with space and processing knowledge through bodily sensations.
  • Is good at physical activities (sports/dance/acting) and crafts.

Spatial-Visual: visual and spacial perception.

  • Learns best by visualizing, dreaming, and working with colors/pictures.
  • Likes to draw, build, design and create things.

Naturalistic: environmental awareness.

  • Learns best by studying natural phenomenon in a natural setting & learning about how things work.
  • Is good at categorizing, organizing a living area, planning a trip, preservation, and conservation.

Musical: musical ability.

  • Learns best through rhythm, melody and music.
  • Is usually aware of sounds others may miss; discriminating listener. 

Interpersonal: empathy with others.

  • Learns best by sharing, comparing, relating, cooperating and interviewing.
  • Likes to have lots of friends, talk to people and join groups.
  • Is good at understanding people, leading others, organizing, communicating, manipulating and mediating conflicts.

Intrapersonal: self awareness.

  • Learns best by working alone, on individualized projects, with self-paced instruction and having own space.
  • Likes to work alone and pursue own interests.
  • Is good at understanding self, focusing inward and following instincts.
  • May be shy.
