Based on Howard Gardner’s work on multiple intelligences and expanded on by Gary Harmes is the belief that every individual has a natural predisposition to a variety of innate intelligences and little-to-no aptitude for others.
Linguistic: words and language.
- Learns best by writing, reading, telling stories.
- Remembers names, places, dates and trivia.
Logical-Mathematical: logical thinking.
- Learns best by categorizing, classifying and working with abstract patterns/relationships.
- Drawn to arithmetic problems, games and experiments.
Bodily-kinesthetic: body movement.
- Learns best by touching, moving, interacting with space and processing knowledge through bodily sensations.
- Is good at physical activities (sports/dance/acting) and crafts.
Spatial-Visual: visual and spacial perception.
- Learns best by visualizing, dreaming, and working with colors/pictures.
- Likes to draw, build, design and create things.
Naturalistic: environmental awareness.
- Learns best by studying natural phenomenon in a natural setting & learning about how things work.
- Is good at categorizing, organizing a living area, planning a trip, preservation, and conservation.
Musical: musical ability.
- Learns best through rhythm, melody and music.
- Is usually aware of sounds others may miss; discriminating listener.
Interpersonal: empathy with others.
- Learns best by sharing, comparing, relating, cooperating and interviewing.
- Likes to have lots of friends, talk to people and join groups.
- Is good at understanding people, leading others, organizing, communicating, manipulating and mediating conflicts.
Intrapersonal: self awareness.
- Learns best by working alone, on individualized projects, with self-paced instruction and having own space.
- Likes to work alone and pursue own interests.
- Is good at understanding self, focusing inward and following instincts.
- May be shy.
